It’s been a week since Between The Buns and La Burger Week wrapped up but we just got the official results a few days ago. The four top vote-getters in the local festival competed on Thursday at Sysco’s commercial kitchen to see who would hoist the impressive Between The Buns trophy. In the end, the panel of expert judges decided that the best burger was The Bull from Bull & Philly. Congrats to owner Kris Kopanski and his staff! The national Burger Week competition ended in an unusual tie between Carlo’s Cucina in Sandy Hook and a Quebec restaurant. Carlo’s Oh Canada burger was also one of the Between The Buns finalists. Carlo Guzzi’s entries have been tops in the country three out of the past four years. He and his team are obviously doing something right. Way to go!

HAPPY 93RD, SALISBURY HOUSE!
Salisbury House is celebrating 93 years in business with some tasty deals for you. Starting Thursday, prices at Sals are dropping as low as .93 cents. And by adding 1, 2, 3 or 4 Loonies, there are many menu items to pick from. But it’s only on Thursdays until October 24th for dine-in customers at all eight Salisbury House locations. By the way, founder Ralph Erwin opened the first Sals store in downtown Winnipeg in 1931. Happy 93rd Salsversary!
KETCHUP SPRINKLES
Heinz is toying with the idea of selling something called Ketchup Sprinkles. It’s not a real product yet but it might be one day. The company has even been sharing photos and videos on social media of what Ketchup Sprinkles might look like. I think kids would love it.

PSL CONTEST
Have you had a PSL yet this year? Starbucks says most Manitobans, three to one, like their Pumpkin Spice Latte hot instead of iced. I’m with the majority on that one. If you use DoorDash to order some PSLs over the next few weeks, you might win Starbucks for a year.
DOLLY PARTON WINES
Dolly Parton has launched a new line of wine. Dolly Wines are produced in collaboration with Parton Family Cellars and Accolade Wines. The wine collection consists of chardonnay, rosé and prosecco. Prices start at under $15. The chardonnay is said to have a balanced sweetness that captures the joy and warmth that Dolly embodies herself. “Dolly Wines are a gift from me, to you,” Parton said in a statement. “Whether you’re sharing stories around the table, simply relaxing in the garden, or gathering with loved ones for the holiday, there’s a little sparkle in every bottle that is designed to bring joy and connection to every gathering.”

REVIEWS OF APPLES GO VIRAL
The Apple Rankings website has gone viral for its bizarre and sometimes harsh reviews of the popular fruit. Writer Brian Frange puts Fuji apples in the “Barely Worth the Calories” category (I agree!). He says they’re not much more than a “choking hazard.” Frange also says Ruby Frost apples have such thick skin that eating one is like trying to cross a busy bridge at rush hour. For me, there’s nothing better than a Honey Crisp apple.
