The project includes improvements to traffic flow, water diversion systems, and road safety. Naylor emphasized the importance of these changes, noting their role in making roads safer and supporting the local economy through infrastructure development.

The project involved several components. The first section saw upgrades to the intersection, new traffic signals, and service road construction. Reconstruction of PTH 5A, including new concrete curbing, raised medians, sidewalks, and paving, spanned 1.8 kilometres from Triangle Road to Whitmore Avenue. This portion of the project cost $21.8 million.

A land drainage and retention pond system was also built for the City of Dauphin. The Manitoba government funded the infrastructure supporting this system, including nearly 900 meters of underground piping and two retention ponds, at a cost of $9.6 million.

The final section involved laying bituminous pavement on 0.8 kilometres of PTH 5A from Whitmore Avenue to Fourth Avenue South, with a cost of $1.3 million.

Dauphin Mayor David Bosiak expressed appreciation for the upgrades, highlighting the improved traffic flow and pedestrian safety. He also noted the project’s role in fostering economic development in the region.

The improvements to PTH 5A include new service roads on both sides of the highway, a fully divided four-lane section with a raised median, and sidewalks along the service roads to encourage active transportation.

These upgrades are part of Manitoba’s multi-year infrastructure investment strategy, which includes planned investments in roads, highways, bridges, airports, and flood protection across the province over the next five years.
