A tragic accident occurred Monday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 7 and Road 73 N, south of Stony Mountain. Stonewall RCMP reported receiving a call about the two-vehicle collision around 3:10 p.m.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found that the crash involved a gravel truck and a sanding truck. The investigation determined that the sanding truck, heading west on Road 73 N, entered the intersection and collided with the gravel truck travelling south on Highway 7.
The gravel truck, driven by a 45-year-old man from Winnipeg, veered into the ditch and rolled over. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the sanding truck, a 29-year-old man from the Rural Municipality of West St. Paul, was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Stonewall RCMP, with assistance from a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, are continuing their investigation into the incident.
