Manitoba RCMP on Wednesday identified the shooter in Friday’s “absolute horrific act of intimate partner violence” near McCreary, Man., as Marlon Glover, 41. The 37-year-old woman and her 35-year-old brother were not named, while the parents have been identified in the community as Curtis and Rita Rosenkranz, 65- and 66-years-old respectively.

“I can only imagine it must have been terrifying for her after the ordeal that she had endured prior to escaping, and hiding,” Staff Sgt. Richard Sherring from major crimes services said at a briefing at Manitoba RCMP headquarters in Winnipeg.

The couple’s three children were not home at the time, RCMP confirmed.

Investigators believe the events began at about 1:20 a.m., when Glover forced his way into his ex-partner’s residence outside the community of McCreary, on the east side of Riding Mountain National Park. When she eventually escaped, he made his way to her parent’s home nearby and killed them and her brother.

He then drove off in his vehicle, stopped on the side of Road 84 W and committed suicide with the same weapon.

RCMP were made aware of his remains at about 10:10 a.m., their first contact. While onscene at 10:40 a.m., they were called to check on the woman’s well-being, and went to her home but were unable to find her. They then went to the nearby residence and found the three bodies.

At about 12:40 p.m., the woman was located in the nearby woods and taken to hospital as a precaution.

“There are many people who are grieving and lost a loved one and today I express my condolences to them,” Sherring said. “The survivor and family is going through an unimaginable loss and has asked everybody to respect their privacy.”

RCMP confirmed that Glover was served with a protection order on Nov. 24, 2023. Two firearms, ammunition, and his gun license were seized and remain in RCMP custody. Mounties are still investigating where the weapon using in the triple murder-suicide came from.

Sherring said the woman made “additional calls for service” since that time, to which police responded and dealt with those calls “appropriately under the circumstances of those calls.”

He couldn’t speak to how many calls there were and declined to say whether any charges were laid.

The case comes six months after Ryan Howard Manoakeesick was charged with five counts of first-degree murder in Carman, Man., accused of killing common-law partner Amanda Clearwater, three of her children, and a niece.
