An inmate at Stony Mountain Institution has died following a serious assault Monday evening.
Headingley RCMP were dispatched to Stony Mountain at around 7:30 p.m., Manitoba RCMP said.
When they arrived, RCMP said officers found a 37-year-old male suffering from serious injuries. The male inmate was taken to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, where he later died from his injuries.
Members of the RCMP Forensic Identification Unit and Major Crime Services were called to assist and Major Crime Unit (MCU) has taken over the investigation, which is ongoing.
