Corpuz, who checked her ticket online, described her initial disbelief at the life-changing win.

“I checked it online and thought I was dreaming,” she said. “I said, ‘thank you lord,’ and couldn’t wait to text and tell my sister.”

The win, however, was bittersweet for Corpuz, who reminisced about playing the lottery with her late mother. “When my mom was alive, we would play together,” she shared. “She always said I would win big, and I wish she was alive to witness this.”

With her newfound wealth, Corpuz plans to reconnect with family in the Philippines.

“I want to go home to the Philippines,” she said. “My last visit was for my mother’s passing a few years ago, so it would be nice to go and make some new memories.”

Reflecting on her emotions after winning, Corpuz described the moment as both joyful and melancholic.

“It’s happy and sad. Bittersweet.”

Corpuz’s winning ticket matched all seven numbers drawn for one of the 14 $1 Million Prize Draws on May 21: 7, 8, 23, 24, 28, 32, 50. She won through Manitoba’s online gambling platform, PlayNow — operated by Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries — which has a range of online lottery, sports betting, and casino games.
