Jerry Daniels re-elected as SCO Grand Chief for third term

Jerry Daniels has secured a third term as Grand Chief of the Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO) following Tuesday’s election held at Naawi-Oodena in Treaty One Territory.

The candidates for SCO Grand Chief, Jerry Daniels of Long Plain First Nation and Kyra Wilson, contested the election, with only SCO Chiefs and appointed proxies eligible to cast votes.

First elected in 2017 and acclaimed in 2020, Jerry Daniels has continued to lead SCO through initiatives addressing a broad spectrum of issues affecting southern First Nations. Under his leadership, SCO has launched pivotal programs such as the Status Card Program, Harm Reduction Program, Pathways to Healing Program, Jordan’s Principle Program, Mobile Crisis Response Team, Traditional Healers Program, and the First Nations Veterans Program.

Reflecting on his re-election, Grand Chief Daniels expressed humility and gratitude.

“Being elected for a third term as Grand Chief is a humbling experience. I remain committed to supporting all leaders of our southern First Nations as we strive to create opportunities for SCO citizens.”

Acknowledging his supporters and opponent Kyra Wilson, Grand Chief Daniels extended thanks to his family, his son Angelo, SCO staff, and Acting Grand Chief Cornell McLean of Lake Manitoba First Nation for their support during the election process.

SCO continues its mission to represent and enhance the lives of citizens from the 34 Anishinaabe and Dakota Nations under the continued leadership of re-elected Grand Chief Jerry Daniels.
