As of Dec. 31, Pink Floyd and NSC Creative, the company behind the show’s visual production, will cease all licenses for the program, which debuted in 2023 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the album.

The immersive 42-minute experience takes audiences on a journey through space and time, set to the iconic album’s tracks. Combining stunning visuals of the solar system and beyond, the show offers a modern, digital take on the classic Pink Floyd laser shows of the past. The experience is designed to utilize the latest planetarium technology, making it one of the most advanced shows available in Canada.

“This isn’t the old-style ‘laser show’ of the past,” says Scott Young, Planetarium Astronomer at the Manitoba Museum. “The show was produced to use the latest digital planetarium system, and Winnipeg is one of only a handful of planetariums in Canada equipped to show it.”

Since its launch in 2023, the Dark Side of the Moon experience has been a sell-out success, with many runs at the Manitoba Museum Planetarium. November will mark the final scheduled showings before the program is retired.

“While the Planetarium is looking at other music-based shows, the Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon 50th anniversary experience will never be seen again,” says Young. “We literally have to delete the files. This really is the last chance to see the show.”

For those wanting to make the most of the experience, the Manitoba Museum is offering a pre-show pop-up bar in the Science Gallery, where attendees can enjoy drinks and explore the Museum before the show begins.

The show will be playing for select dates starting Thursday.
