Man charged after random stabbing on city bus

A man has been charged for a random stabbing on a transit bus on Aug. 13.

Winnipeg police arrested a 23-year-old on Sunday, accused of stabbing a man in his 30s on a bus near Main Street and Selkirk Avenue at about 5 p.m.

After speaking with witnesses and viewing surveillance footage, police believe a group of people instigated an altercation with the victim that escalated into a fight before the accused stabbed him, Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release.

The victim had serious upper body injuries.

The 23-year-old is facing charges of assault with a weapon and failing to comply with a probation order. He is in custody.

The major crimes unit continues to investigate.
