Man dies after being beaten on Maryland Street on Tuesday

A violent assault on Maryland Street has left a 32-year-old man dead, prompting an investigation by the Winnipeg Police Service’s Homicide Unit.

Tuesday at about 6:50 p.m., Winnipeg police responded to a call about a severe assault on Maryland Street. Police discovered an adult male victim, later identified as Philip Daniel Lachose, lying on the sidewalk with severe injuries. Immediate medical attention was provided, and Lachose was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead shortly after.

Lachose, a member of the Chemawawin Cree Nation, had been living in Winnipeg at the time of the incident. His family has been notified of his passing.

The Homicide Unit has now taken over the investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the assault, including potential video surveillance, to come forward.
