Local police have arrested a 38-year-old man for stealing an SUV and driving it through the door of an auto body shop last Thursday on St. Mary’s Road. The accused used the vehicle to steal tools from a nearby home-renovation store.

At 7 p.m. the suspect stole a customer’s SUV parked inside the auto body shop located in the 400 block of St. Mary’s Road. He drove it through an overhead door, causing approximately $10,000 in damage.
About a half an hour later, he drove the vehicle to a nearby store on Abinojii Mikanah and stole $3,000 worth of tools.
At 9 p.m., police discovered the stolen vehicle abandoned in the Niakwa neighbourhood. The driver was located nearby in possession of the stolen tools and taken into custody.
Upon arrest, the Winnipeg man provided a false name. The investigators later determined his correct identity, which revealed a number of outstanding warrants.
