Man in custody charged with third separate homicide

A man awaiting trial for two separate murders this spring has been charged in a third homicide.

The 27-year-old was arrested Wednesday at the Winnipeg Remand Centre for first-degree murder in the shooting death of Robert Clayton Smith, 35, on March 16. Smith was found unresponsive in a suite in the 300 block of Manitoba Avenue and died in hospital.

The accused was being held on two second-degree murder charges after being arrested April 11 in the Point Douglas area with a loaded rifle in his backpack.

He was charged in the killing of Edgar Allan Bear, 56, who was found dead in a house on Selkirk Avenue on March 18, and the shooting death of Daniel Raymond Garvey-Rodriguez, 25, found outside an apartment building on College Avenue on Sept. 10, 2023.
