Winnipeg Police were called to investigate an assault with attempted robbery that took place at a convenience store on Stadacona Street on Thursday.

The victim in his 50s reported that at approximately 6:20 p.m. he was walking to the store when an unknown male approached him. He mumbled a question. When the victim did not respond the male pushed him down and began kicking him on the ground.
After managing to get up, the victim entered the store followed by the suspect. The male demanded that the victim buy him cigarettes. When the victim refused, he was assaulted again until a store employee yelled that they were calling the police. The suspect fled the scene.
The victim sustained minor injuries, but did not request medical attention.
The suspect is a young black male in his 20s with a medium build and short dreadlocked hair. The Major Crimes Unit is continuing the investigation.
