A 47-year-old man is dead after he was stabbed near the Airport Motor Inn on Ellice Avenue Thursday night.

Winnipeg police said officers were called to the 1800 block of Ellice at about 10 p.m. and found the man who had been stabbed. They gave him first aid before he was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
A 42-year-old man was arrested nearby. Police said they expected to release what charges the man is facing as well as the name of the victim in “the very near future.”
At a press conference on Friday, Cst. Claude Chancy said investigators believe the two were known to one another.
“All we know so far is that there was an altercation, a physical altercation, and it escalated to the point where one person was stabbed,” he said.
Chancy said there were other people “present in the area” police are also trying to interview.
