Manitoba First Nations Police officer threatened with firearm

A Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) officer was threatened with a firearm after responding to a disturbance complaint Thursday morning.

At around 9:30 a.m., MFNPS officers were called to a residence in Long Plain First Nation about a disturbance complaint.

When they arrived, the officer interacted with the male causing the disturbance at which time he became uncooperative, brandished a firearm and threatened to kill the officer. The officer reacted by withdrawing their firearm and providing verbal direction to the male to which he eventually complied.

The male was arrested without further incident.

A 48-year-old was arrested and charged with two counts of uttering threats as well as possessing a weapon, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, common nuisance, and assaulting a police officer.

He was detained into custody and was set to appear in Portage la Prairie Provincial Court on Friday.
