“Manitoba’s provincial parks offer an incredible variety of trails and activities for Manitobans of all ages,” said Moyes in a press release. “I am pleased to announce we are waiving the entry fee to all provincial parks for the month of February to make it more affordable for Manitoba families to get outdoors and enjoy all our beautiful provincial parks have to offer.”

The parks provide a range of winter activities, including cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, fat biking, snowshoeing, hiking, outdoor skating rinks, hockey arenas, and toboggan hills. Hecla/Grindstone Provincial Park also offers free ice-fishing shelters on Lake Winnipeg, and Asessippi and Whiteshell provincial parks feature ski slopes.

Additionally, Manitoba Winter Trails Day will be celebrated for the first time on Saturday, Feb. 8. The day will highlight the province’s winter trails and activities and will occur annually on the second Saturday of February. It aims to showcase local trails, honor trail maintenance partners, and inspire Manitobans to enjoy winter adventures with family and friends.

On Feb. 8, park interpreters will lead guided trail hikes at Birds Hill and Spruce Woods Provincial Parks. In Birds Hill, participants can explore the Nimowin Trail and search for wildlife tracks. In Spruce Woods, they can hike the Epinette Trail to learn about the park’s landscape and spruce forest.

Details on these events and other winter activities can be found at manitobaparks.com. Manitobans are also encouraged to check for trail conditions before visiting.

While vehicle permits are not required in February, snowmobiles will still need a Snopass to use designated trails.
