Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Lisa Naylor announced the project and said the bridge is an important east-west link for people, businesses and communities across the region and that infrastructure is essential to Manitoba’s economy.

“Manitobans depend on safe roads and bridges to grow their businesses, support their families and ensure they have access to important health services,” said Naylor. The project aims to enhance safety and build resiliency for rural communities.

MD Steele Construction Limited has been awarded the contract to construct the new bridge. The three-span steel I-girder design will provide improved hydraulic capacity to manage flood risks and will be wider than the current structure, featuring two 3.7-meter travel lanes and 2.5-meter shoulders.

Work on the bridge has already begun, with the structure expected to open to traffic next fall and completion of the project in the late fall or early winter of 2025. Traffic will be detoured next to the existing highway, with a single lane controlled by signal lights at both ends of the bridge. Drivers are advised to proceed cautiously through the construction area.
