The four-year agreement covers the period from July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2026 and includes a 12.25 per cent wage increase over its term, with a compounded increase of 12.85 per cent. Wage adjustments are scheduled as follows: 2.5% in 2022-23, 2.75% in 2023-24, 3% in 2024-25 and 3% (plus an additional 1% teacher retention adjustment starting February 1, 2026) in 2025-26.

The deal also features increased preparation time, enhanced workplace safety measures and leave options.

Teachers will receive: a new salary schedule for the 2026/27 school year, enhanced protections against workplace violence, increased prep time to a minimum of 210 minutes per cycle by 2025-26 and improved leave options, including up to three days for personal and Indigenous ceremonial leaves.

“This agreement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our teachers,” MTS President Nathan Martindale said in a release on Thursday. “It reflects our commitment to recognizing their invaluable contributions and ensuring they are supported in their ever-changing and demanding roles.”

The agreement also introduces a new salary structure for 2026-27, including adjustments for northern regions and Indigenous language teaching. The changes aim to standardize rates across the province and adjust substitute rates.

“By addressing preparation time, workplace safety, and leaves, this agreement not only improves the day-to-day experiences of our teachers but also strengthens the overall quality of education our students receive,” Martindale said.

The Manitoba Teachers’ Society said it is committed to building on this agreement to benefit all members, including school leaders, clinicians, and substitutes.
