Selkirk RCMP responded to a motorcycle collision on Highway 44, about one kilometre east of Highway 59, on Monday, July 29, around 12:45 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers found the motorcycle driver with life-threatening injuries. The 24-year-old male from Winnipeg was transported to the hospital and on Aug. 2 he died from his injuries, according to a release from the RCMP on Tuesday.
Investigators determined the motorcycle was travelling westbound on Highway 44 when it was struck from behind by a pickup truck that failed to remain at the scene.
Information obtained at the scene led officers to an address on Henderson Highway, where the suspect vehicle was found with the driver asleep at the wheel. RCMP arrested the 30-year-old male driver for Impaired Driving, Causing Bodily Harm, and took him to the Selkirk RCMP Detachment for breath analysis.
The 30-year-old was later released and has a court date scheduled for November 8, 2024, in Selkirk. He faces charges of Operating while Impaired over 80 mg%, Causing Bodily Harm, and Failure to Stop After an Accident resulting in Bodily Harm.
On Aug. 2, the man was re-arrested for impaired driving causing death and released for court scheduled on Nov. 8 in Selkirk.
