This initiative marks an advancement in MPI’s efforts to modernize and streamline its services province-wide.

MPI Registration is tailored to manage customer and fleet/vehicle participation in the International Registration Plan (IRP), especially catering to commercial customers who frequently travel outside Canada. This new system promises enhanced convenience, choice, and security for IRP customers.

Satvir Jatana, president and chief executive officer of MPI, emphasized the importance of this milestone.

“The launch of MPI Registration underscores our commitment to leveraging technology for the benefit of Manitobans. This system sets the stage for improved service experiences, ensuring our IRP customers receive top-notch service.”

Project Nova represents MPI’s most extensive technology transformation to date, aiming to modernize customer access to MPI’s products and services while fortifying Manitoba’s public insurance system technologically.

Enhanced services for IRP customers

With MPI Registration, IRP customers will enjoy several benefits:

  • Access to specialized IRP services at MPI’s King Edward location in Winnipeg.
  • Flexibility to visit any MPI Service Centre province-wide for the majority of IRP documents.
  • Consolidated credentials into a single, user-friendly document for convenience.
  • Enhanced information security across MPI’s systems.

Roy Hart, MPI’s vice-president and chief information and technology officer, expressed excitement about the improvements.

“By offering more accessible service locations, simplified documentation, and heightened security measures, we are facilitating easier management of registration needs for our commercial customers,” Hart said.

This launch represents the first step for MPI Registration’s capabilities, with future updates set to introduce self-service options and further streamline IRP services.

Foundation for future phases

Following the introduction of changes to MPI’s special risk extension last year, MPI has laid the groundwork for all core functionalities needed for the remainder of Project Nova. The next phase of Project Nova will focus on personal insurance, driver licensing, and registration services, promising additional enhancements for all Manitobans.

“Project Nova is a comprehensive transformation that spans multiple phases and years,” said Jatana. “Each phase brings us closer to a fully modernized public insurance system, benefiting all Manitobans.”
