City Councillors Brian Mayes and Matt Allard have officially opened a new green space, Parc l’avenue Carriere Avenue Park, at the corner of Des Meurons Street and Carriere Avenue. The park sits on the boundary between the St. Vital and St. Boniface wards, offering a new amenity for both communities.

The project was made possible by a $25,300 upgrade from the St. Vital Parks Recreation (PREP) budget. The funds were used for new trees, gravel paths, benches, and sod, creating a welcoming space for local residents. The park serves as a much-needed green space for the growing Glenwood neighbourhood in St. Vital, and it is located on the St. Boniface side of the boundary street.

Councillor Mayes expressed his appreciation for the collaboration between the two wards, noting that the Glenwood area has seen significant population growth without a corresponding increase in city funding. He credited his colleague, Councillor Allard, for working together to create the park. Mayes also mentioned a past challenge from former Councillor Kevin Klein to create 2,000 acres of parkland, calling this new park a small but meaningful step toward that goal.

Councillor Allard highlighted the role of Mayes’ leadership in turning the empty lot into a community space. He emphasized that the park will help foster stronger connections, promote outdoor activities, and enhance wellness for families in the area.

For further information, residents are encouraged to contact Councillors Brian Mayes or Matt Allard via email.
