While it may not look like golf season looking out the window but at least one city golf course is getting ready to open its driving range on April Fools’ Day on Monday with the course opening next week.

After a warm winter, with light snow that just seems to hang out its only natural that Shooters Family Golf Centre & Restaurant prepare for the upcoming golf season.

“This is no April fools joke!,” said Amy Cerasani, Shooters Events Coordinator & Food Services Manager in a media notice sent out Saturday. “Shooters will open its driving range officially for the season on April 1, and if the forecast stays the way it’s looking an anticipated opening date of April 10 for the executive 18-hole golf course.”
A fixture on north Main Street near the Perimeter, Shooters is set to begin its 31st season this year. This year’s driving range opening is 10 days earlier than last year.
Due to an unusual end to last season, final rounds of golf were played on Dec. 7, and an unusually warm winter allowed them to keep the driving range open for periods in January, February and March giving Winnipeg golfers the opportunity to golf outside all 12 months of the year.
“A first for our family business!,” said Cerasani.
