It’s still June, but summer is already sizzling at Winnipeg’s iconic North Star Drive In.

Local resident David Weber was such a fan of the drive-in’s classic fare owner Dale Klassen named a burger after him: The Weber. It comes with bacon, peanut butter, jam, and hot sauce.

“The North Star is a North End staple. It’s just an awesome place,” Weber said. “It also supports a lot of important local causes.”

Klassen took over the burger institution, located at 531 McGregor St., in 2012, expanding the menu with homemade veggie burgers and unique creations like “Sweet Dreams Are Made of Cheese,” a burger featuring mozzarella sticks and chili, and “The Friday Nighter,” a burger topped with a grilled hot dog.

“Making real food, with great ingredients that are really delicious, is what I love doing,” said Klassen. “Our recipes have stood the test of time.”

The family-owned and operated business also serves up a lot of milkshakes and ice cream.

“But what I enjoy the most is being part of the fabric of such a phenomenal community; on summer nights, the North Star is a real hub,” he said. “Winnipeggers know authenticity when they see it.”
