The new store, planned for a mostly vacant property on Panet Road in Elmwood, will be 105,000 square feet and include 503 parking spaces and 46 bicycle stalls. It is located near Princess Auto’s current location and north of the CN Redditt subdivision rail line. Part of the property, which once served as a junkyard, has been leased for parking and storage.
The project highlights Princess Auto’s commitment to remaining in Winnipeg, where it first opened in 1933 as an auto wrecking business. The company now operates more than 50 stores across Canada and employs over 3,400 people. Winnipeg remains home to one of its three distribution centers and its national call center.
The new store aims to provide additional space and new features, including maker spaces designed for customers to test tools and equipment. The initiative reflects the company’s evolution from auto parts to a retailer catering to tradespeople, farmers, inventors, and industrial workers.
City officials support the project, emphasizing its economic and employment opportunities. If approved by the full council, the development will mark another milestone for a company deeply rooted in Winnipeg’s history and economic landscape.
