Over 40 charges laid following two-month crime spree targeting West End businesses

A 38-year-old Winnipeg man faces over 40 charges following a two-month crime spree targeting West End businesses.

Winnipeg Police said Sunday that between June 18 and Aug. 8, 2024, several commercial businesses in the West End area fell victim to numerous break-and-enters with an estimated value of $283,000 in stolen property and $51,000 in sustained damage.

Several stolen vehicles were used during this crime spree, many of which were stolen from the related commercial businesses, police said.

With the assistance of General Patrol officers, the Central Reporting Unit, and the Crime Analysis Unit, the Major Crimes Unit was able to identify and arrest a male in connection with these incidents.

A 38-year-old has been charged with 23 counts of break enter and theft and a half dozen other break and enter offences. He was also charged with possession of stolen property, possession of break-in instruments, fraud, robbery, theft of a motor vehicle and driving while prohibited. He was also booked on three outstanding warrants. He was detained in custody.
