About three hours later, the 44-year-old male victim tracked the stolen vehicle, a rented 2014 Mazda CX-5, to a parking lot in the 1500 block of Regent Avenue, where both suspects were observed with the vehicle and advised police. Both suspects fled on foot before police arrived.

General Patrol officers located both suspects in the same parking lot and arrested them without incident. The male suspect was found to be in possession of $1,300 worth of freshly stolen property from two retail stores in the immediate area, as well as identification documents that did not belong to him. Officers recovered the stolen vehicle and returned the stolen property to their rightful owners.

The 38-year-old man was charged with possession of stolen property, possession of identification documents and two counts of theft under $5,000. He was detained in custody.

The 29-year-old woman is facing a charge of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and was released by way of an Appearance Notice as mandated by the Criminal Code.

The suspects and the victim were not previously known to one another, police said.
