Parents of an infant face child abuse charges after they brought their infant to a Winnipeg hospital for treatment.

Winnipeg police said hospital officials reported that an unresponsive infant girl with suspicious injuries was brought in for treatment in late September.

Doctors told police the injuries were caused by malnutrition and abuse.

The parents were arrested without incident on Tuesday.

A 29-year-old woman from Winnipeg has been charged with failing to provide the necessities of life, while a 33-year-old man, also from Winnipeg, faces charges of aggravated assault and failing to provide the necessities of life. Both are in custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
