Officers on patrol saw a parked pickup truck in an enclosed private compound in the 200 block of Tecumseh Street, between Logan and Ross avenues, on Sept. 7, police said Wednesday in a news release. A search of the property revealed several other stolen pickup trucks along with an ATV, two tow trucks, a camper, and two motorcycles.

Among other items seized were towing decals, a compactor, a mapping and surveying device, and various Manitoba license plates and personal identification documents, police said.

The items were stolen from around the city and rural areas between July 2023 and early September, police said.

“Further investigation revealed that the compound was being rented by a male suspect and that the owner of the compound was unaware of the criminal activity occurring within it,” the release read.

A 38-year-old Winnipeg man was arrested Sunday and remains in police custody. He faces 16 counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and eight counts under $5,000, among other charges.

Police do not believe the man acted alone and believe more arrests are to come.
Property has been returned to their rightful owners, police said, reminding people to register and record serial numbers of vehicles and trailers.
