The organization reported that the shooting was “targeted.”

“As players and spectators were leaving, there was a targeted shooting in the parking lot. A local player sustained serious upper body injuries,” the organization said in a press release. “(Sunday) morning we’ve been informed the victim has succumbed to his injuries.”

Winnipeg police identified the victim as Mohamed Yusuf Addullahi, 22.

Police said their investigation determined Addullahi just finished playing and was exiting the event when he was fatally shot. Investigators do not believe this was a random shooting and are seeking the public’s assistance. There were approximately 100 spectators present at the game, and someone may have valuable information to assist the investigators.

CACN said its resolve to community safety will not waver.

“Our vision remains unchanged, to use soccer to unite the communities and take youth at risk off the street.”
