Police lead on wild high-speed chase of stolen truck

A man faces numerous charges following a wild high-speed police chase of a stolen truck that led officers outside city limits with the suspect driving into on-coming traffic.

The pursuit started after General Patrol Officers observed a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck with no plates in the 100 block of Selkirk Avenue late Friday night. Officers attempted to pull the vehicle over but the two occupants failed to stop and proceeded northbound on Main Street, police said. The suspect vehicle left the city and continued northbound, prompting notification of the RCMP.

During an extensive pursuit conducted by Air1, the suspect vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed and driving into on-coming traffic through Narol, Lockport, Selkirk, Breezy Point and Clandeboye, Man.

Multiple tire deflation devices were deployed, the suspect vehicle was stopped, and two occupants were taken into custody after fleeing on foot.

The truck was previously stolen from Esterhazy, Sask.

A 36-year-old man has been arrested and was charged with flight while pursued by police, dangerous driving, possession of stolen property, possession of a weapon, failing to comply with probation order or condition of release and three outstanding warrants as well as various Highway Traffic Act offences.

He remains in custody, while an adult female was released with no charges.
