Police respond to family disputes that end in stabbing

Winnipeg Police Service responded to two stabbing incidents over the weekend involving family members under the influence of alcohol.

Saturday afternoon, Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a stabbing at a residence in the 700 block of McPhillips Street.

Officers from the North District and the Tactical Support Team located a 40-year-old female victim with significant injuries and provided emergency medical care. The 29-year-old female suspect remained on the scene and was taken into custody.

The victim was transported to hospital in an unstable condition and was later upgraded to stable.

The Major Crimes Unit determined the accused and the victim were related and had an argument under the influence of alcohol leading to the stabbing.

The 29-year-old suspect was charged with aggravated assault.

Sunday evening, officers from the West District responded to a stabbing reported at a residence in the Westdale neighbourhood.

Upon arrival, police provided emergency medical care to the male victim in his 20’s with upper body injuries. He was transported to hospital by ambulance in an unstable condition, and was upgraded to stable.

The accused, still on scene, was taken into custody. The 17-year-old male and the victim were related and had been consuming alcohol when a fight took place and the victim was stabbed.

The youth is facing charges of assault and assault cause bodily harm and was released on an undertaking.
