Police return stolen goods after suspect caught, charged

Winnipeg police responded to a break-and-enter Tuesday afternoon in the 200 block of St. Mary’s Road, leading to the arrest of a suspect following a foot chase by police.

Officers located a suspect in the rear lane of the residence, but the man fled on foot leading police to the area of St. Mary’s Road and Niverville Avenue. During the chase, the suspect ran into traffic and unsuccessfully attempted to open the door of a southbound vehicle.

The suspect then tried to steal a bicycle from a 40-year-old in the 200 block of St. Mary’s Road. Police intervened and arrested the suspect, using a Taser after he resisted arrest.

All stolen property from the break-and-enter was recovered and returned to the owner. No injuries were reported.

The suspect, a 42-year-old Winnipegger, faces charges including robbery, break and enter, obstructing and resisting a peace officer, and possession of break-in instruments. He also had seven outstanding warrants. He is in custody.
