A Winnipeg man faces weapons charges after police found a sawed-off shotgun in his backpack in Osborne Village on Wednesday afternoon.
At around 2 p.m., Community Support Unit officers were proactively patrolling the Osborne Village neighbourhood when they observed a man loitering in the 400 block of River Avenue. Officers stopped the man, which led to an investigation and the subsequent discovery of a sawed-off shotgun concealed in the backpack he was wearing. Officers seized the firearm as evidence and placed him under arrest without incident.
A 37-year-old man has been charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and other firearms offences.
He was detained in custody.
