Premier Kinew shuffles cabinet with focus on innovation and affordability

Premier Wab Kinew has unveiled a revamped Manitoba Cabinet, including new ministers and refreshed portfolios, as the government marks its first year in office. The changes are part of a renewed commitment to address health-care, affordability, and innovation.

“Hope lives here in Manitoba. After years of cuts to health care and a rising cost of living, our government is working to give Manitobans a reason to hope for a better future,” Kinew said. “Today, we renew our commitment to deliver a good life for families, with refreshed and focused government departments and dedicated new ministers ready to serve you.”

The new cabinet includes the creation of the Department of Innovation and New Technology, led by Mike Moroz (MLA for River Heights). This department will focus on supporting the tech industry, fostering innovation, and modernizing government services.

Mintu Sandhu (MLA for The Maples) has been appointed Minister of Public Service Delivery, while Nellie Kennedy (MLA for Assiniboia) takes on the role of Minister of Sport, Culture, Heritage and Tourism.

Several cabinet members have also received updated responsibilities. Jamie Moses (MLA for St. Vital) will now oversee business, mining, trade, and job creation, while Ian Bushie (MLA for Keewatinook) will focus on natural resources and Indigenous futures. Glen Simard (MLA for Brandon East) assumes responsibility for municipal and northern relations, and Lisa Naylor (MLA for Wolseley) is now Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure.

Existing members of cabinet with refreshed responsibilities include:

  • Jamie Moses (MLA for St. Vital) – minister of business, mining, trade and job creation;
  • Ian Bushie (MLA for Keewatinook) – minister of natural resources and Indigenous futures;
  • Glen Simard (MLA for Brandon East) – minister of municipal and northern relations, minister responsible for francophone affairs and the Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Corporation; and
  • Lisa Naylor (MLA for Wolseley) – minister of transportation and infrastructure.
