Province announces byelection for June 18 for Tuxedo

Premier Wab Kinew announced Monday that a byelection for the provincial constituency of Tuxedo will be held on Tuesday, June 18.

The vacancy in Tuxedo was created by the resignation of former Premier Heather Stefanson on May 6.

Stefanson was herself first elected in a byelection in 2000, replacing former Progressive Conservative Premier Gary Filmon. She was reelected in 2003, 2007, 2011, 2016, 2019 and 2023 elections.

The necessary documents providing for the June 18 byelection were signed and issued Monday.

The chief electoral officer will be issuing an additional press release in the upcoming days that will indicate polling times, locations, and the dates and locations of advance polls.

There are currently 34 New Democrats, 21 Progressive Conservatives, one independent Liberal and one vacant seat in the Manitoba Legislature.
