The Public Utilities Board (PUB) has approved a reduction in the Gas Commodity rate for Centra Gas Manitoba Inc. (Centra). Effective Aug. 1, 2024, the rate will decrease from $0.0918 per cubic meter (m³) to $0.0785 per m³. Additionally, a Commodity Cost Balancing Deferral rate rider of $0.0023 per m³ will be introduced, also effective Aug. 1, 2024.

This rate decrease is due to anticipated declines in North American natural gas market prices over the next year. Gas Commodity rates are set on a cost-recovery basis, meaning Centra only charges customers the cost it incurs for purchasing gas without earning a profit.
The new rates are expected to lower the annual bill for a typical residential customer by about 4.6%, or $30 per year. The Gas Commodity rate and the Commodity Cost Balancing Deferral rate rider will be reviewed again on November 1, 2024.
Customers with fixed-term, fixed-price contracts with Centra or private brokers will not see changes to their rates.
