Stonewall RCMP responded to multiple reports of a dangerous driver in the RM of Rockwood on Friday at around 8:10 p.m.

The vehicle was reported to be erratically driving, changing speeds, and nearly colliding with other cars. RCMP officers located the vehicle travelling north on Highway 7 near Road 80N and pulled it over.

The driver, a 30-year-old male from Winnipeg, was arrested after breath samples indicated a blood alcohol level more than four times the legal limit. He faces charges of operation of a motor vehicle while impaired, operation of a motor vehicle while over 80mg%, drive while disqualified, and drive without insurance.

He was released from custody and has an upcoming court date.

“This is a very busy highway and we are quite certain this could have ended in tragedy,” said Staff Sergeant Jason Vrooman, Detachment Commander of Stonewall RCMP in a release. “A big thank-you to alert motorists who called in and helped us get this vehicle off the highway quickly.”
