RCMP face armed man during investigation in Dauphin

RCMP officers were confronted by a man holding a rifle while investigating a residence on 2nd Avenue NW in Dauphin on Nov. 27. The officers had knocked on the door as part of an ongoing investigation. The resident answered the door with the firearm in hand before retreating inside the home.

The area was quickly secured and the officers established communication with the individual. After some time, the man complied with police requests, exited the residence, and surrendered without further incident.

A 37-year-old man from Dauphin was arrested and remanded into custody. He faces charges that include possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unsafe storage of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and careless use of a firearm.

The firearm, found loaded, was seized along with a small quantity of ammunition. The RCMP investigation is ongoing.
