An RCMP officer is facing an assault charge after an investigation by the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU).
On Oct. 4, 2023, RCMP notified the IIU of an incident on Sept. 29 in The Pas.
The IIU was told RCMP responded to a call for service at 12:30 p.m. regarding a domestic dispute between two adult females. Upon arrival, officers met one of the females who was taken into custody after a brief struggle and later released. Two days later on Oct. 1, The Pas RCMP received a call from the woman seeking to
make a formal complaint.
The civilian director of the IIU determined that Criminal Code charges should be laid against the officer.
As a result, a constable has been charged with one count of assault.
