Headingley RCMP responded to a report of an assault and disturbance in the RM of Macdonald at around 9:10 p.m. Wednesday.
A 23-year-old male was reported to have assaulted a female and attempted to set vehicles on fire. Upon arrival, officers encountered a man they said was armed with an edged weapon.
During the confrontation, an officer’s firearm was discharged. The 23-year-old sustained a gunshot injury, was taken into custody, and received medical attention. He was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition.
The man remains in police custody. The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba is handling the investigation. No further details are available.
