RCMP respond to drowning at Cross Lake

RCMP were called to a drowning incident at Cross Lake on Saturday at around 7:35 a.m., near the boat launch, in Pimicikamak Cree Nation.

Police said witnesses reported seeing a man about 200 metres from the shore struggling in the water and calling for help. Two individuals attempted to rescue him, but he went under and did not resurface.

Cross Lake RCMP, Fire and Rescue, and community members conducted a search. At approximately 7:05 p.m., searchers recovered a body, identified as a 32-year-old male from the community.

An autopsy will be performed, and the investigation by Cross Lake RCMP is ongoing.
