Police said their Winnipegosis detachment got a call around 2:35 p.m. on April 18 about a man they said had threatened to use a firearm on residents in a home and later fled the residence with an infant.

Police said later that day the vehicle of the man, who was known to the residents of the home where the incident took place, was discovered and the man allegedly fled from the vehicle on foot and ran into a wooded area with the infant who was not dressed for the sub-zero temperatures that day.

RCMP PSD services was called in and RCMP said Police Service Dog Marook started a track. After approximately two kilometres through a heavily treed area, PSD Marook and his handler located the man and the infant.

The man was taken into custody. The infant appeared unharmed and was handed over to emergency medical services once officers hiked out of the bush. It was determined the infant was not physically injured.

Police said they have since confirmed the suspect man was not in possession of a firearm, but the 26-year-old has been charged with fleeing from a Peace Officer, Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm, and Uttering Threats.
