A group of 136 dogs “in distress, living in unsanitary conditions and requiring medical attention” were brought to WHS after being taken from a residence just north of city limits on Aug. 1. They have been in care at WHS for just over two weeks and some are healthy and old enough to be adopted.

“We’re deeply grateful to the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian-Animal Welfare, our dedicated staff, volunteers, and partners for their hard work and dedication to getting these dogs ready for their new life,” CEO Jessica Miller said in a news release.

The organization is asking people to visit them at 45 Hurst Way to see the dogs available, with adoptions on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The next step for many of the small-breed dogs will be the spay/neuter at the WHS clinic. Some of the dogs will be making their way into partner rescue organizations, which reduces the strain on resources and “taps into different audiences of potential adopters,” WHS said.
