Johnson was last seen on Sept. 18, 2024, after attending a breakfast program at the local school. He did not arrive in class after the program ended at 9 a.m., and a large-scale search was immediately launched by community members and RCMP.

Shamattawa RCMP, along with volunteers, have been searching wooded areas, trails, roads, sheds, and construction sites. ATVs and vehicles are being used to cover more ground, with some searchers continuing on foot. RCMP officers have also reviewed video footage from the school to determine which direction Johnson may have taken after leaving the school property.

Efforts have intensified with the arrival of RCMP Police Service Dog Phlex and his handler. Two drones are now being deployed, and a helicopter will be joining the search when weather conditions permit. More officers from Thompson are en route to assist, as well as members of the RCMP Search and Rescue Team and volunteers from the Winnipeg Volunteer Search and Rescue group. The Office of the Fire Commissioner and Canadian Rangers are also involved.

Sergeant Mark Svaren, the Shamattawa RCMP Detachment Commander, praised the community’s ongoing efforts. He said the intensity of the search has not lessened since the report was made. He emphasized the strong and steady involvement of community members.
