Police said the investigation determined that the deceased victim and the accused were socializing with a group of people at an apartment in the 800 block of Main Street on March 19. An altercation took place, resulting in the fatal shooting of Baker with the accused subsequently fleeing the city, police said.

The accused, who also faces warrants for possessing a weapon and failing to comply with conditions of a release order, was detained in custody.

“The Winnipeg Police Service would like to thank the Saskatoon Police Service for their assistance in this investigation,” police said in a statement.

On March 19 at around 9:15 a.m., Winnipeg Police were called to a Main Street apartment building suite regarding an unresponsive adult male.

Attending officers located Baker, who was rushed to hospital and pronounced dead. Baker was originally from South Indian Lake and residing in Winnipeg. His family was notified shortly after his death.
