Just before midnight on Friday, Winnipeg police responded to a robbery involving a machete in the 200 block of Roseberry Street.

A 28-year-old man told officers he had been walking when an unknown suspect approached, armed with a machete, and demanded his belongings. The victim ran, and the suspect chased after him, swinging the weapon. The machete struck the victim’s back, but his backpack prevented injury.
The victim was able to reach safety and call police while the suspect fled. Officers in the area located a male matching the description nearby. A search revealed the machete concealed on him.
A 16-year-old Winnipeg male was taken into custody and has been charged with robbery, possession of a weapon, and failing to comply with a release order.
