A 15-year-old is in police custody and faces charges of robbery and aggravated assault after a 13-year-old acquaintance of hers was seriously injured in an attack encouraged and recorded by other youths.

Winnipeg police said the teen was arrested Tuesday at a residence in the 700 block of Machray Avenue for the unprovoked beating on April 17 in a parking lot at Madison Street and Ness Avenue.
Bystanders called police after seeing the 13-year-old on the ground being kicked and punched while others took video with their phones and cheered on. Officers said the victim was found unconscious, with serious head and facial injuries. She was eventually upgraded to stable condition.
The youths fled and took the victim’s backpack. Police said a search warrant was executed at the Machray Avenue address.
Investigators learned the two were known to each other and went together to the area where the assault happened.
