Winnipeg police found the man with serious upper body injuries Tuesday night at the intersection of Portage Avenue and Tylehurst Street. Emergency medical care was provided, including the application of a chest seal, before he was transported to the hospital. He was initially in unstable condition and was later upgraded to stable.
Witnesses directed officers to the suspects’ path. The K9 Unit and Tactical Support Team searched the area and located two suspects hiding under a structure in the 1500 block of Wolseley Avenue West. The Major Crimes Unit is leading the investigation.
Police said the victim and suspects did not know each other prior to an altercation in a bus shelter, which led to the assault.
A 24-year-old man has been charged with assault causing bodily harm, possession of a weapon, and breach of probation and a 30-year-old woman has been charged with possession of a weapon, possession of a scheduled substance, and failure to comply with a probation order. Both suspects are in custody.
