Teens assaulted in downtown Winnipeg hotel, 54-year-old facing charges

Winnipeg police responded to a distressing call from a teenage female at a downtown Winnipeg hotel on Saturday morning.

The teenager reported that a man had sexually assaulted her and a friend, who was still in the hotel room with the suspect.

When officers arrived at the scene, the suspect attempted to flee by jumping out of a second-story window. He was apprehended and taken into custody. The suspect was later taken to a hospital and remains in stable condition. Both teenagers were also taken to the hospital and are in stable condition.

The Winnipeg Sex Crimes Unit took over the investigation and learned that the incident began on Friday when the suspect approached the teenagers and their adult friend on Main Street. The group went with the suspect to a hotel suite, where he supplied them with alcohol and drugs. The three females left the hotel later that night.

On Saturday morning around 7 a.m., the suspect again encountered the two teenagers on Main Street. They returned to the hotel, where the suspect provided more alcohol and drugs. Once inside the suite, police said the teens were prevented from leaving and were subjected to physical and sexual assault.

One of the teenagers managed to escape and sought help, leading to the police intervention.

The suspect, a 54-year-old Winnipeg man, has been charged with multiple offences, including two counts of sexual assault, two counts of forcible confinement, assault, obtaining sexual services for consideration, possession of cocaine, and failing to comply with a probation order. He was also wanted on a warrant of apprehension and suspension of parole.
