Teens charged after assault recorded: cops

A group of teenagers recorded a video as they confronted a 19-year-old man they followed off a bus at knifepoint, assaulted him, and stole his belongings, Winnipeg police said.

The victim told police five people followed him off the bus on June 16 at about 8:50 p.m., when he exited at Monroe Avenue and Besant Street in East Kildonan. He declined medical attention.

Four people were arrested between June 16-18, and all face robbery charges. A 17-year-old female was also charged with possess weapon, while an 18-year-old female faces those two charges and two charges of breaching recognizance. The others were an 18-year-old female and a 17-year-old male. They were released on undertakings as mandated by the Criminal Code.

Police believe there may have been some familiarity between the victim and some suspects, but the incident was a crime of opportunity.
